With the Parliament in recess, Marion spent Tuesday meeting local people and visiting organisations within the community.
One of these visits was to the Motherwell office of Sacro to meet with members of staff. Sacro is a fabulous organisation helping to create safer and more cohesive communities across Scotland by offering a variety of services designed to repair harm and reduce conflict and reoffending.
The Motherwell office in particular offers the following services:
- Arrest Referral Service
- Adult Restorative Justice
- Shine Women’s Mentoring Service
- Women’s Mentoring Service
- Anti-sectarian Services
Marion was also delighted to meet with Timothy Hussein of the Ethnic Minorities Law Centre back in her constituency office.
The Ethnic Minorities Law Centre provides legal advice and representation to individuals from Scotland’s Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, as well as providing training and second-tier advice to the Citizens Advice Bureau and other advice agencies across the country. In addition to casework for clients and training for advice agencies in their specialist areas of law, the EMLC also operates telephone advice lines, awareness-raising sessions and workshops for young people.

On Wednesday, Marion was at St. Aidan’s High School to speak to young people about why it’s important that they play their part in the democratic process in the future and what being a Member of Parliament entails on a daily basis. The Motherwell & Wishaw MP also met with the school’s debating team.

Marion met with Robin Turner and his team at Routes to Work in Motherwell on Friday. Every year, Routes to Work helps thousands of local people address many different day to day challenges, helping them to return to work or take up employment for the first time. The organisation responds directly to the needs of the community and are currently supporting the Tata workforce.
