Wednesday marked the formal start of the 2016-17 parliamentary year with the State Opening of Parliament.
Ahead of the Queen’s Speech, the Scottish National Party set out its own Alternative Queen’s Speech, putting forward the party’s progressive alternative to the damaging austerity policies of the UK government, calling for measures to make the UK fairer, more prosperous and more equal, and proving once again that the SNP is the only clear, consistent and effective opposition to the Tories at Westminster. The Alternative Queen’s Speech can be read in full here.
Marion’s Thursday at Westminster revolved around a number of briefings and meetings over the course of the day.
The Motherwell and Wishaw MP also lodged two Early Day Motions on Thursday – commemorating the silver anniversary of Motherwell FC’s 1991 Scottish Cup win and congratulation the pupils of Mossend Primary School on taking first place in this year’s North Lanarkshire Schools Dance Finals.
On Friday, Marion’s staff were out and about in the constituency meeting local people, answering questions and providing assistance with various issues, including a visit to Motherwell ASDA.
