As MP for Motherwell & Wishaw, I am keen to be as accessible as possible. Together with my fantastic constituency office staff, we aim to assist all local people who come to their MP looking for help, information or advice. Since May last year, we have successfully assisted almost one thousand constituents with a variety of issues, including immigration concerns, problems with benefits, and much, much more.
However, often the types of issues raised are either outwith the MP’s remit, such as housing or education, or involve other aspects which could use further support from other organisations, individuals or public services. Although in these situations my staff and I will always strive to do what we can, we are always keen to ensure that the person or persons involved get the best assistance they can. Often, assisting a constituent may be pointing them in the right direction.
With this is mind, I am delighted to announce that, as of today, my website will include a new section – the Support Directory.
The aim is simple – to provide local people with a very easy-to-use directory of local services and organisations who may be able to provide them with the assistance they require, particularly with issues that are outwith an MP’s remit. The directory is easily accessible from my website simply by clicking “Support” in the menu at the top of the page. All the organisations listed are either organisations who have requested or given permission to be included, public services, or elected representatives.
The directory will also remain a “work-in-progress” for as long as I am in office, with new listings added frequently as we look to make it as extensive and far reaching as we possibly can.
My staff and I will continue to be as accessible as possible and I welcome correspondence from any constituent. However, if you or someone you know has an issue they may require assistance with, please have a look at my Support Directory to see if the relevant support is available.
