After writing to the Home Office to call for assurances that the rights of EU nationals living in the UK and UK nationals living elsewhere in the EU would be protected. EU citizens here make massive contributions to our communities and wider society, such as teaching our children and tending to the sick. The Minister for Immigration, Robert Goodwill MP, has responded.
Until Article 50 is triggered – which is expected to happen next year – and until the negotiations are concluded – which are expected to last two years – the rights of those here and a broad will remain in tact.
Following pressure from the SNP benches, the UK Government has provided assurances that securing the legal status of EU nationals here and UK national abroad will be a top priority.
The SNP will make sure that the UK Government honours that pledge in the coming months.
