Supreme Court Ruling

24th January 2017

Today’s Supreme Court ruling states that Parliament must vote to trigger Article 50 and begin the process to leave the EU; not the UK Government. Parliament will have its say and its chance to scrutinise the UK Government’s plan – or lack thereof. This is why the UK Government has gone to great lengths to ensure Parliament is unable to discuss the matter.

The Supreme Court ruling also stated that the Scottish Parliament will have no say in the triggering Article 50. The democratic deficit in this supposed “family of nations” is stark. Scotland voted to Remain in the EU but could see us ripped from it against the will of the Scottish people risking jobs, funding, and citizens’ rights.

The Scottish Government has made clear and achievable proposals to keep Scotland in the single market. The ball is in Theresa May’s court. She must respect the will of the Scottish people.
