Two Years as Your MP!

10th May 2017

I am very proud of my record as MP for Motherwell and Wishaw over the last two years, both at Westminster and at home in the constituency. Here’s just a brief taste of some of the things I’ve done since I was elected in May 2015…

I’ve assisted over 3,000 local people with over 4,600 cases, including battling the DWP on behalf of many constituents who have been handed unfair benefit sanctions or have fallen victim to flawed work assessments…

I’ve played an important role as part of the Scottish Steel Task Force – set up by the Scottish Government – which worked to successfully save the Dalzell steelworks…

I’ve championed the pension rights of women in North Lanarkshire…

I’ve taken hugely important concerns regarding the Child Maintenance Service straight to the heart of Westminster…

I’ve passionately and enthusiastically supported local campaigns and projects…

I’ve spearheaded the fight againt the closure of the Brandon post office…

I’ve established the Poverty Action Network, bringing together local organisations from across our communities – such as Basics Food Bank, the Citizens Advice Bureau, Routes to Work, the Scottish Association for Mental Health, and the Scottish Welfare Fund – in an effort to work towards eradicating poverty in Motherwell, Wishaw and Bellshill…

I’ve held the Tory government to account over its austerity agenda, its treatment of the most vulnerable in our society, and some of its truly heinous policies…

I’ve supported many national and international campaigns of great importance…

And I’ve met a huge number of greatly inspirational, admirably hard-working, and truly impressive people from within our communities…

…it has been two years I am incredibly proud of…

On the 8th of June, re-elect me as the MP for Motherwell and Wishaw, so that we can continue to work together to grow our local economy, protect our local services, fight unfair sanctions on benefit claimants, end flawed work capability assessments, and oppose austerity politics.
