MP MARION CALLS FOR END TO NLC COALITION OVER BIN-GATE
Motherwell and Wishaw MP, Marion Fellows, has this week written to council leaders calling for a public report into North Lanarkshire Council’s handling of changes to bin collections and has called for a public apology.
The MP wrote to council leader, Jim Logue, and also the Convener of the Infrastructure Committee, Michael McPake.
Changes made by North Lanarkshire Council have caused chaos for thousands across the local authority leaving many with bags of rubbish piling up in the street and some bins being infested by maggots.
Commenting, Marion said:
“It’s time the Labour-Tory coalition in North Lanarkshire Council is binned and efforts made to clear up the mess it has caused.
“Despite bins being a local authority issue, my office has been inundated with complaints. It is unacceptable and the councillors who made and oversaw the decision must apologise to the public. It is not good enough to pass the buck to council workers who must be better supported at this time.
“To understand the full extent of the situation, it is essential the SNP’s request for a public report and apology from Infrastructure Convener, Cllr McPake, is carried out.
“There has been no consultation. No apology. And clearly no thought put into the changes.
“The backroom coalition is causing serious damage and public outrage. It must be ended.”
