Scotland’s Minimum Unit Pricing Law

15th November 2017

This is fantastic news that will go some length toward tackling the harm alcohol can have on individuals, families and communities. Research conducted by the University of Sheffield has found that a Minimum Unit Price of 50p would mean about 120 fewer deaths and 2,000 fewer hospital admissions per year by year twenty of the policy.

This is just one policy of many the SNP has introduced to tackle alcohol harm, including banning multi-buy discounts and irresponsible drinks promotions; investing in prevention, treatment and support services; and introducing a stricter drink drive limit. The SNP will also now invest an additional £20 million in alcohol and drug treatment and support services.

All of these steps will contribute towards a healthier Scotland.
