Nicola Sturgeon says Scotland will refuse to sign up to Westminster’s attack on devolution

27th February 2018

The First Minister is absolutely right to say that she will seek to reject a Brexit deal that will not result in the full repatriation of powers to the Scottish Parliament.

In 1999, the powers of Holyrood were agreed. There is no rationale for the Tories in Westminster to commit to a power grab. To do so would undermine the very idea of devolution in the UK which Tory MPs seem to have no understanding or respect for – especially when we look at their policy on Northern Ireland.

The Scottish Government accepts that there does need to be an agreed and standardised framework within the UK on some areas post-Brexit, but that is for the UK Government to agree with the Scottish Government – not for them to arrogantly attempt to ride roughshod over Scotland.
