On Wednesday, I spoke in a debate on the regeneration of Redcar where the site where the former steelworks stood. I offered the experience of Motherwell and Wishaw.
The story of Ravencraig is one of neglect. For years, the workforce and site were neglected by the UK Government.
I’m glad that the Scottish Government was able to save what remains of Ravenscraig in 2016 and that the site has been marked as one of great importance.
We are seeing Ravenscraig grow with the college and sportscentre already built. We also have homes, schools, a civic park and importantly, space allocated for industrial use.
I’m excited to see what becomes of Ravenscraig in the years to come.
