The Tories’ Child Maintenance Service has teeth, but is not prepared to use them. This is preventing children from getting the support they are entitled to.
New powers to CMS are obviously welcome, but there’s no point if CMS will not use them and continue to allow parents to evade their responsibilities.
There needs to be urgent action on enforcement of current and past cases. Not content with cutting state support to vulnerable people, the UK Government is also happy to allow parents to opt out of supporting their own children.
