WORK DUE TO START ON SHIELDMUIR PARK & RIDE

Marion Fellows, SNP MP for Motherwell and Wishaw, has this week received confirmation from Taylor Wimpey that a contractor to build the Shieldmuir Park and Ride has been assigned and work will begin in the coming weeks.

Residents buying their new homes ten years ago were promised a Park and Ride facility at Shieldmuir station with 103 spaces which was reduced to 25 in 2010.

Once started, Taylor Wimpey say that the project will take roughly three months to complete.

The site will have two charging points for electric cars, bike parking, and CCTV.

Taylor Wimpey have agreed to investigate why the number of spaces were reduced and whether more spaces can be added.

Commenting, Marion Fellows said:

“Following almost a year of meetings and correspondence to Taylor Wimpey and Network Rail regarding the delays to the installation of the Shieldmuir Park and Ride facility, I am glad that progress is being made and work will begin soon.

“This site has been a source of much frustration and anger to the residents who have been waiting almost ten years for this promised facility. I share residents’ anger. These works are long overdue.

“Promises have been made to investigate extending the site and residents have my assurances that I will continue to press for this.”E
