What do you think Mrs May will do? Answers on a postcard to 10 Downing Street….. https://t.co/IyxUi3rZle

The Chancellor has an opportunity with his Budget to reinstate the #WASPI womenâs pension rights. To do nothing would be an appalling abdication of responsibility to women who are now turning to ESA and the shambolic Universal Credit to support themselves.https://t.co/gwvE9d0q5u

16th September – 9th October 2016
The UK Parliament is an incredibly busy place when it is in session. However, there are often recesses throughout the year. From the 16th of September to the 9th of October, the Parliament was in its conference recess hence why, if you keep an eye on what Marionâs up to through the âThis Weekâ feature, youâd have perhaps noticed no updates over the past few weeks!
Of course, this doesnât mean that the Motherwell & Wishaw MP has been sitting with her feet up in front the telly! Far from it â Marion has been incredibly busy over the past weeks working hard on casework in her Dalziel Building office, planning for the coming months back at Westminster, and being out and about in the constituency, talking to local people, assisting with issues, and meeting local charities, organisations, and businesses.
Here are some of the highlights from a busy three weeks back in North Lanarkshire:
Marion was delighted to meet with residents and friends of Glenview Court and the volunteers of Befriend Motherwell in September.
Important community focused organisations like these contribute so much to peoples’ lives and the MP was keen to urge people to volunteer if they can. If you wish to do so call 01698 440180.
The services they provide to tackle loneliness are particularly important to the elderly community who gain so much support from Befriend Motherwell.
Marion is extremely pleased that they have been awarded Big Lottery Funding to continue their extensive programme to support and bring the elderly community together.
Many low income families across Scotland have experienced major difficulties with their tax credit payments as a result of Concentrixâs shambolic handling of cases.
As a result, these families, already struggling, have been put under more and more pressure. This is unacceptable. People rely on these payments for their financial security.
Many families have had their tax credits stopped for a variety of bizarre reasons which have no basis in reality or logic. For example, one victim of Concentrixâs mishandling was accused of living with their neighbourâs ex-wife.
Following sustained pressure from the SNP benches, the UK Government are now intervening on this urgent matter which must be extremely distressing to many families. I am glad that the contract with Concentrix will not be renewed.
I am appealing to constituents to get in touch with my office if they their tax credits have been stopped or even if they have an issue with any other matter. Local people need to know that there is someone in their community to fight for them when the UK Government and their departments wonât listen.
Marion was pleased to attend the McMillan Coffee morning hosted by Made 4U in ML2.
It was lovely to have a cuppa and a blether with the local community for such a worthy cause!
Thanks go to Claire McCormack and her team Andrew, Elaine and Nicole who organised the event.
Marion was delighted to join her colleagues from the Scottish Steel Task Force as well as trade unions, steelworkers and others at the formal opening of the Dalzell Steelworks in Motherwell.
Thanks to the hard work of the Scottish Government, a future has been forged for steel in Scotland. The works will continue to provide a number of jobs to the community and allow workers to continue making world class steel products.
A big well done is due to all those involved in saving this iconic industry.

Marion was keen to get involved with Slosh Across North Lanarkshire, the council’s campaign to raise funds and awareness for the British Transport Games, taking place between 27th and 30th July 2017.
Not only did Marion take the opportunity to show off her dancing skills, but she was also keen to nominate Clare Adamson MSP, Alex Neil MSP, Fulton MacGregor MSP, Jamie Hepburn MSP, Richard Lyle MSP, Phil Boswell MP, Neil Gray MP, and Stuart McDonald MP to follow suit!

In October, Marion spent a great afternoon accompanying John Swinney, Depute First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills on a visit to Thornlie Primary School in Wishaw.
Alongside colleague Clare Adamson MSP and Headteacher Mr Hughes, Marion met with teachers, staff, parents and pupils and saw first hand the innovative work going within the school.
So with a busy recess back home complete, it is back to Westminster for the Motherwell & Wishaw MP. Marion will continue to champion the interests of local people and local communities in Parliament and her constituency office continues to be available should you require any assistance whatsoever from your MP.
