MP MARION READY TO FIGHT ELECTION AND BRING DOWN TORIES

MARION FELLOWS RE-SELECTED AS SNP CANDIDATE FOR MOTHERWELL & WISHAW

Marion Fellows, MP for Motherwell and Wishaw, was today re-selected by local branches as the SNP’s candidate for the next Westminster General Election and says she is ready to fight a snap election to bring down the Tories.

Marion says she will continue to prioritise the same three issues she always has: defending Scottish sovereignty; opposing austerity and supporting investment in jobs and services; and halting the Tories’ Brexit plans.

Marion has spearheaded campaigns to protect the Post Office network locally and nationally; making the Child Maintenance Service fairer for families; raising awareness of Autistic Spectrum Conditions; and improve access to lifechanging Cystic Fibrosis drugs.

Marion served as a Wishaw Councillor from 2012 to 2015 when she was elected as the Member of Parliament for Motherwell and Wishaw and re-elected again in 2017.

Commenting, Marion Fellows said:

“It has always been a privilege to fight for the wonderful communities in Motherwell, Wishaw and Bellshill. I’m elated my branch has re-selected me as their candidate. The SNP is ready to fight an election at any time and bring down the Tory Government.

“We need to halt Brexit so we can continue trading to protect jobs and services. We need to end austerity and invest in people and our economy. We need to defend the will of Scotland’s people and Parliament and stop the Westminster power grab.

“Corbyn’s Labour and the Tories are in engaged in full-blown civil wars. Labour has failed to form a coherent position on Brexit and the Tories’ position is tearing communities apart. The SNP has a clear plan to stop austerity and Brexit.

“I know the struggles of local, hardworking people. Johnson and his pals don’t. It will be ordinary families, not the Tories, who will pay the price of a no deal Brexit and continued austerity.”E

BREXIT THREATENING LOCAL PUBS AND RESTAURANTS

SURVEY SHOWS PUBLICANS’ BREXIT FEARS AS MP OFFERS SUPPORT

A recent study from the Scottish Licensed Trade Association has found that more than a quarter of pub owners in Scotland believe Brexit is having a negative impact on business.

The survey of 500 licensed premises across the country, including large chains as well as independent operators, found around 28% think the uncertainty around the UK’s departure from the EU has negatively impacted them.

This is a rise on the 17% of premises that highlighted concerns over Brexit in a December study ahead of the UK’s original departure date of March 29.

In response to the survey, Motherwell and Wishaw MP, Marion Fellows, has written to local publicans and restaurant owners to warn against the impact of Brexit on business and high streets and called for owners to come forward to share their views.

Commenting, Mrs Fellows said:

“Brexit is having a far reaching and detrimental impact on our economy and communities. The uncertainty of Brexit and arrogant actions of Boris Johnson and his far-right gang are catastrophic for businesses and high streets.

“Brexit is forcing people to think about what they are spending with many worried about their jobs. This is impacting the local economy – particularly the hospitality sector. Potential trade tariffs will also be concerning businesses.

“Pubs and restaurants are often at the heart of communities and their place in them must be protected. That’s why I’m voting against a no deal Brexit and ensuring Scotland’s access to the tariff-free single market remains.”

GENERAL ELECTION ALERT

Boris Johnson is holding a Cabinet meeting today followed by a meeting with all Tory MPs where he may be preparing for a General Election. That means the hard working people of Motherwell and Wishaw must also get ready.

The SNP is ready to fight an election and oust the Tories from Government so we can protect our economy from a Tory Brexit, our communities from Tory austerity, and our Parliament from the Westminster power grab.

With 318 votes in it between the SNP and Labour in 2017, we need the support of local people who want to return a strong voice for Motherwell and Wishaw – not a weak Labour party divided by infighting and who fail to stand up for Scotland’s interests.
