SCOTLAND “IGNORED” IN BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS

Boris Johnson has announced he has agreed a deal with the EU – but the DUP has stated its position still stands and they will oppose it in a vote.

No matter what happens, what is clear is that every single Brexit deal negotiated by the UK Government has ignored the will of Scotland. England and Wales both voted leave and will get to leave the EU. Northern Ireland voted to remain and will get the benefits of being closer to the EU single market.

Despite voting remain, Scotland has not been offered such a special arrangement. We will be dragged from the EU against our will.

The UK Government does not care about Scotland – our will, people or Parliament. With independence, we can take control of our own futures rather than let Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg decide it for us.

FIRST MINISTER’S ADDRESS

Scotland is facing two futures: one as part of the UK, led by a Prime Minister that has broken the law, is determined to destroy our economy and services through a no deal Brexit and austerity, and who wants to tear our communities apart. Or we can have a future as an independent standing as equals amongst others around the globe and take control of our futures to secure the country that we want to live in.

Thankfully, before the end of this year, the First Minister will will demand the transfer of power that puts the legality of a referendum beyond any doubt. As support for independence has recent;y climbed to 50%, Westminster’s continued refusal to respect the sovereignty of the Scottish people to decide its own future is unsustainable and undemocratic.

Opposing the oppression of Catalan democracy; condemning the bloodshed of Turkey against the Kurdish people; a Scottish Child Payment with no Rape Clause or two child cap; and a pledge to scrap non-residential social care charges for all if a SNP Government is re-elected in 2021.

Human rights, peace and supporting our citizens – these are the values at the core of the SNP and the values that will be at the core of an independent Scotland.

SUPREME COURT RULES JOHNSON ACTED ILLEGALLY

The Supreme Court has delivered a unanimous judgement that Boris Johnson acted illegally when he prorogued Parliament. No longer able to act like a tinpot dictator, Parliament will be reconvened to hold him to account. He must, for once, do the decent thing and resign.

SNP MPs will not allow Johnson to railroad his no deal Brexit plans through. So long as a no deal Brexit can be prevented, we will not hesitate to tear down this right wing Tory Government and make Johnson resign. Scotland will not be silenced.

We will oppose Johnson’s Brexit plans, the Tories’ austerity agenda, and ensure Scotland’s sovereign Parliament is protected.

LABOUR BID TO DITCH DEPUTY SHOWS SORRY STATE OF PARTY

INFIGHTING OVER NATIONAL INTEREST AT TIME OF CRISIS

While the Brexit crisis continues its grip over Westminster politics, the Labour party has turned to infighting over opposing an increasingly reckless right-wing Tory government.

With just 40 days until the UK is due to leave the EU, Labour’s Momentum faction has moved to oust their deputy leader Tom Watson — who has been one of the few consistent voices on the Labour front bench opposed to Brexit.

The SNP has said this latest plotting has become characteristic of a Labour party which is incapable of standing up to the Tories on the biggest issue facing the country for decades.

Commenting, Marion Fellows MP said:

“The Labour party’s failure to stand up to the Tories on Brexit will go down as one of the greatest political misjudgments of all time.

“Their failure to stand firm against the biggest political risk facing the UK puts our economy and thousands of jobs in peril.

“These latest manoeuvrings against their anti-Brexit deputy leader show that Labour will always prioritise infighting over the national interest at a time of crisis.

“Where Jeremy Corbyn has failed to provide opposition, the SNP will continue to fight for what’s best for Scotland.

“That means, unequivocally, stopping Brexit and giving people the right to choose a better future with independence.”

2014: FIVE YEARS ON

2014 feels like only yesterday. I fondly remember the days of the referendum and the feelings of hope and positivity people held. There was a political awakening in Scotland that has continued to this day. The people of North Lanarkshire had had enough of being side-lined by Westminster and having austerity inflicted on our communities and voted Yes.

Since 2014, a lot has happened. Scotland was given fewer powers than we were promised. We’re being taken out of the EU against our will despite being promised our membership was safe in the UK. We’ve seen more and more austerity forced on Scotland and our communities from London. We’ve seen a Westminster power grab on the Scottish Parliament. We’ve seen Westminster suspended. And we’ve seen hapless leaders like Theresa May and Boris Johnson who have made the UK a laughingstock and are taking us off a no deal cliff edge – a disaster for jobs and services.

Scotland is far from being an equal partner in the UK. But with independence, we can be an equal member in the EU and the world. We can take the decisions that affect us and our futures into our own hands. We can abolish foodbanks by building a full social security system based on fairness, dignity and respect where children, the disabled and the elderly get the support they deserve. Workers can earn a proper wage and enjoy stability free from zero hours contracts. We can fund our services and invest in jobs with a fair tax system where those with the ability to pay more pay their fair share.

As calls for a second referendum increase, Unionist parties aren’t outlining the positive case for staying in the UK. How can they? Instead, they are doing everything in their power to block democracy and the will of Scotland’s people and Parliament. They refuse to recognise that Scotland’s future is Scotland’s to decide.

There is so much for Scotland to gain from independence. I am looking forward to the day that we can take our positive message to the people once again.

THE INCREDIBLE SULK

Only yesterday, Boris Johnson compared the UK to the Incredible Hulk. Following discussions with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg – a country of 600,000 people – Boris Johnson clearly wasn’t up to speaking to press. Instead, he turned into the Incredible Sulk and ran off with his tail between his legs.

Boris Johnson is quickly finding out that he can’t bumble his way out of the Brexit mess he has gotten the UK into and it will be his plan to blame the EU. Instead of coming up with a concrete alternative negotiating with EU leader, he has spent much of his time touring the UK to put the Tories on an election footing.

Don’t be fooled. Boris Johnson’s arrogance and sentimental delusion of the UK as some powerful, imperial state is the reason the UK is hurtling towards a no deal Brexit and shortages of food and medicine.

Between 27 August and 4 September, 790 people across North Lanarkshire and 19,913 across Scotland registered to vote. In that week, Johnson announced the proroguing of Parliament; Rees-Mogg lounged on the front benches of the chamber; and the UK Government began its losing streak.

People are looking at how Boris Johnson and his pals are treating Scotland and democracy. How the Tories are forcing a no deal Brexit and austerity on us. How they are shutting down Parliament and criticising the judiciary – two bodies meant to keep the UK Government in check.

But SNP MPs are continuing to fight to ensure Scotland’s voice is heard. To kick the Tories out and ensure a strong voice for Scotland, make sure you’re registered to vote.

MP MARION READY TO FIGHT ELECTION AND BRING DOWN TORIES

MARION FELLOWS RE-SELECTED AS SNP CANDIDATE FOR MOTHERWELL & WISHAW

Marion Fellows, MP for Motherwell and Wishaw, was today re-selected by local branches as the SNP’s candidate for the next Westminster General Election and says she is ready to fight a snap election to bring down the Tories.

Marion says she will continue to prioritise the same three issues she always has: defending Scottish sovereignty; opposing austerity and supporting investment in jobs and services; and halting the Tories’ Brexit plans.

Marion has spearheaded campaigns to protect the Post Office network locally and nationally; making the Child Maintenance Service fairer for families; raising awareness of Autistic Spectrum Conditions; and improve access to lifechanging Cystic Fibrosis drugs.

Marion served as a Wishaw Councillor from 2012 to 2015 when she was elected as the Member of Parliament for Motherwell and Wishaw and re-elected again in 2017.

Commenting, Marion Fellows said:

“It has always been a privilege to fight for the wonderful communities in Motherwell, Wishaw and Bellshill. I’m elated my branch has re-selected me as their candidate. The SNP is ready to fight an election at any time and bring down the Tory Government.

“We need to halt Brexit so we can continue trading to protect jobs and services. We need to end austerity and invest in people and our economy. We need to defend the will of Scotland’s people and Parliament and stop the Westminster power grab.

“Corbyn’s Labour and the Tories are in engaged in full-blown civil wars. Labour has failed to form a coherent position on Brexit and the Tories’ position is tearing communities apart. The SNP has a clear plan to stop austerity and Brexit.

“I know the struggles of local, hardworking people. Johnson and his pals don’t. It will be ordinary families, not the Tories, who will pay the price of a no deal Brexit and continued austerity.”E

DICTATOR JOHNSON

Boris Johnson’s questioning of the independence of the Scottish judiciary is dictatorial and dangerous. Especially when the judgement concerns the shutting down of Parliament to force through a no deal Brexit.

When Johnson has a 100% losing record as Prime Minister, his closure of Parliament is an insult to democracy and all the people who live in it. It is also an insult to Scottish institutions which No. 10 sources view as beneath them and not equal with English courts. Scotland was told we were a member of a union of equals.

At best, Johnson is only exposing himself as a spoiled, Etonian toddler used to having his own way. Rather than take responsibility for his actions as a bumbling tinpot dictator, he’s trying to blame the judiciary. I suppose it would be everyone else’s fault if no deal Brexit were to occur and people couldn’t access the medicines they need.
